British lawyers file complaint in connection with property seizure of Isabel dos Santos to Interpol

Two days ago, a group of British lawyers sent a letter to Interpol asking for an investigation into a case involving Isabel dos Santos. According to Dinheiro Vivo, the case concerns an alleged forgery of documents used to seize Isabel dos Santos' assets.

:

According to the lawyers' letter, to which the Portuguese newspaper had access, a businessman from the United Arab Emirates, with whom Isabel dos Santos would be negotiating the sale of her shares in Unitel, is said to have hired Angolan Interpol agents to "carry out a survey of the Unitel situation". The idea would be to understand if it was a good deal.

After the alleged survey of Unitel's situation, the purchase was advised against in a document, which according to the lawyers, was used by the State to justify the request for seizure of the company's assets. Supposedly, in that document it is advised that the assets of Isabel dos Santos be seized, taking into account that the businesswoman would have a supposed debt to the Angolan State and, with the sale of the shares, the recovery of the money would be questioned.

The lawyers say that this document, which reports on the employment of agents by a private individual, is a problem. According to legal sources they explained to Dinheiro Vivo, the purchase or sale of Interpol services by private parties is a crime, and when the document was presented, the court should have given it as null and void and opened an investigation.

However, the document was allegedly used as evidence to seize the company's assets.

The lawyers are now asking Interpol to investigate this situation. If the document is found to be invalid, the asset seizure decision may be overturned.

The businesswoman was contacted by the Portuguese newspaper, but decided not to comment on the situation.
