Government wants to amend Civil Protection law to better respond to serious risks

The Council of Ministers considered this Thursday the draft law to amend the Basic Law on Civil Protection, which will be sent later to the National Assembly and aims to improve the response to disasters.

The communiqué sent to Lusa after the end of the third extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, which took place this Thursday at the Presidential Palace, under the guidance of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, indicates that the current law is "partially out of line with the Constitution".

Furthermore, it does not give "sufficient tools to the Executive to put in place an effective system of response preparedness in situations of serious collective risk, disasters or calamities where the safety and lives of citizens are in danger".

This Thursday's session also approved the Organic Statutes of the ministerial departments resulting from the reform of the State, namely through the merger of sectors: Industry and Trade; Territorial Administration; Homeland Defence and Veterans; Culture, Environment and Tourism; Public Works and Territorial Planning; Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas; Telecommunications, Information and Media Technologies and Agriculture and Fisheries.

With the reform, several management and leadership positions were reduced from 559 to 313, representing a saving of approximately one hundred million kwanzas/month in the wage bill.
