Adão de Almeida, who was speaking at a press conference in Luanda, said that the new extension of the state of emergency "combines the preservation of health and economic activity" and represents the beginning of a new journey, considering that some attitudes will have to be internalized.

"These are measures that are abnormal, but necessary taking into account the life and health of all of us," he stressed, adding: "we are beginning to make the way to get used to a set of rules and an abnormal way of life that will become our normal, with which we will live permanently for the foreseeable future.

The third period of emergency, which began at midnight on 11 May and lasts until 25 May, maintains the suspension of a set of rights, including a ban on entering and leaving the country, with no exceptions.

Interprovincial movement is allowed for the purpose of exercising economic activity, except for Luanda which maintains the health fence.

In public institutions, employees will be required to wear masks and labour legal relations will continue to be safeguarded, and in addition to the ban on ceasing such relations, they may not be suspended.

The practice of physical exercise in the open air is extended to the weekend, from 5am to 7pm.

Commercial establishments are obliged to define maximum attendance capacity, with physical distance between clients and mandatory wearing of masks by clients and employees.

The street sales and markets are now open between Tuesday and Saturday, and the wearing of masks is mandatory. On Sundays, not only the street sales are prohibited, but also the purchase of products from those who are practicing this activity.

The violation of the rule of worship is subject to suspension of recognition of religious confession until one year.

Domestic workers are again allowed to work, between 6am and 3pm and the employer must create biosafety conditions and provide masks.

Masks are also mandatory in funeral ceremonies.

Drivers who exceed the maximum allowed capacity (50 per cent) may lose their license.
