The first of five flights arrived with 380 tons of biosafety material from China

The government on Monday received the first of five flights from China that will bring a total of 380 tons of biosafety materials and other equipment to combat the covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health reported.

According to the minister, this is the first of five flights that will bring biosafety material, equipment such as fans, infrared thermometers, masks and protective devices for sterilization, as well as laboratory equipment for the diagnosis of covid-19, purchased with resources. of State.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 282,000 deaths and infected more than 4.1 million people in 195 countries and territories.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

The death toll from covid-19 in Africa has risen to 2290, with more than 63,000 infected in 53 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on the continent.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Guinea-Bissau leads in number of infections (761 cases and three deaths), followed by Equatorial Guinea (439 cases and four deaths), Cape Verde (260 cases and two deaths) deaths), São Tomé and Príncipe (212 cases and five dead), Mozambique (103 cases) and Angola (45 infected and two dead).
