Government attentive to police excesses during state of emergency

The Minister of State and head of the Security House of the President of the Republic of Angola reaffirmed this Friday, in Luanda, that nothing should justify excesses committed by police against citizens in the application of the measures of the state of emergency.

:

Pedro Sebastião was speaking at the National Assembly, which unanimously approved President João Lourenço's third request for an extension of the state of emergency, first enacted on 27 March.

In their speeches, the deputies expressed concern about the actions of the police, namely the leader of the parliamentary bench of the Wide Convergence of Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE), Alexandre Sebastião, who warned that the excess by the defense forces and security cannot claim more victims than the new coronavirus.

The assistant to the head of state stressed that the Government has received calls for attention "to the attitude, sometimes, of some elements of the National Police, which, acting outside of what is being directed, creates some discomfort for citizens and even, in some cases, to society ".

"In his own head, the Minister of the Interior referred to this and acted accordingly, and that is why we are here to reaffirm that aspect, that nothing, but nothing, should justify the disproportionate use of the means we have, with regard to order and tranquility of the populations ".

Pedro Sebastião, also the coordinator of the Multisectoral Commission for the Prevention and Combat of covid-19, praised the entire journey made by the country since "those early days of some uncertainty", until today, adding that there is consensus among the population the need to comply with the authorities' guidelines.

"From those early days, when we didn't quite know how to approach some issues, for today [we see] how gratifying it is that citizens, in general, understand the need to wear the mask, wash their hands, stay in home ", he underlined, indicating that" the road traveled was long ".
