According to a government statement, to which VerAngola had access, the measure is part of the strategy and policies to promote Angola's image.

"The Executive has set up a multi-sectoral commission to create the 'Marca Angola', within the scope of the strategy and policies to promote the country's image, to build a prosperous and developed society, with a diversified, open and sustainable economy", reads the note.

The government clarifies that this 'brand' must be created with the aim of promoting tourism, culture, private investment, among others, aiming to enhance the country's image at a national and international level.

"In accordance with Presidential Order No. 117/25 of April 17, the 'Marca Angola' should be created to promote tourism, culture, private investment, business and sport, with a view to enhancing Angola's image at domestic and international levels", the statement states.

Furthermore, the document states, the Government's objective is also to create an 'Marca Angola' "with the capacity to communicate and highlight the unique attractions and memorable experiences that the country can offer, considering its crucial and essential role in the differentiated perception of Angola by visitors, tourists and investors, in a globally competitive market".

Coordinated by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, the commission is composed of the Ministers of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication (as deputy coordinator), National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, Interior, Foreign Affairs and Finance.

The ministers of Territorial Administration, Industry and Commerce, Education, Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, as well as the chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the Angolan Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX) are also members of the aforementioned commission.

According to the government note, among the "responsibilities of the commission are the preparation of the terms of reference for the public tender for the 'Marca Angola' and its sub-brands, the action schedule and the Communication and Publicity Plan for the tender and the budget forecast for the tender process".

"The commission is supported by a technical group, coordinated by the Secretary of State for Social Communication and includes the Secretaries of State appointed by the heads of the ministerial departments represented", says the statement, which adds that "other entities may be invited to participate in meetings, whenever necessary".

At the provincial level, "provincial governors must establish support committees for the competition, made up of the directors of the provincial offices of Culture and Tourism and the directors of the offices of Social Communication".

The Government concludes by stating that the coordinator of the commission "must present the balance report to the President of the Republic after 30 days of the 'Marca Angola' competition".
