The trip, according to a statement from the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM), to which VerAngola had access, left Lubango for Namibe last Friday.

"In a joint initiative between the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM) and the Chic Chic Hotel, a special tourist trip to the province of Namibe took place on 4 April, as part of the celebrations of Angola's 50th anniversary of independence and within the scope of CFM's projects aimed at promoting regional tourism", reads the note.

With more than 200 passengers on board, the train passed through points such as the Chela mountains and the Namib desert.

"Departing from the city of Lubango, the series 24 tourist train transported more than 200 passengers on a journey full of natural beauty, crossing the imposing Chela mountains and the stunning Namib desert", says CFM.

The first stop, the statement says, "took place at Serra station, followed by Bibala station, where visitors were warmly welcomed by a local cultural group, in celebration of Peace Day, celebrated throughout the country."

The first stage of the journey ended late Friday afternoon, when the train stopped at the main Moçâmedes station.

"The train arrived at Moçâmedes main station at around 5pm, marking the end of the first leg of the journey. The tourists then headed to their accommodation, with the itinerary continuing the following day."

Thus, on Saturday, the program continued with "visits to the historic Fortress of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), the Curoca Hills and the emblematic Welwitschia mirabilis plant, culminating with a stop at Largo do Arco, one of the symbols of the city of Namibe".

"The return to Lubango began at 6 pm, with arrival scheduled for the early hours of the following morning," says CFM, adding that the train arrived in the city at around 4 am, "with tourists visibly satisfied and with a feeling of mission accomplished."
