The Government launched, this Monday, the Angolan Gender Observatory. On the occasion, the minister clarified that the observatory – which is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women (MASFAMU) – will serve to analyze indicators on gender inequalities in the country.

Quoted in a statement from MASFAMU, to which VerAngola had access, the minister highlighted that this platform "emerges as a fundamental tool for collecting, analyzing and disseminating indicators on gender inequalities in the country", adding that "the platform will benefit state, academic and civil society institutions, providing data that helps promote equity in access to opportunities and decision-making positions".

According to the governor, "the project represents a milestone in the Executive's commitment to human rights and the construction of a more just, equitable and participatory society, where men and women walk side by side towards sustainable development, combined with the reinforcement of the application of laws such as Law 25/11 against Domestic Violence", says the note.

At the ceremony, which had the motto "Knowledge to Act", Zahira Virani, United Nations coordinator in Angola, reiterated the "continued commitment of the United Nations to support the Government of Angola" in this field.

"During the launch, the United Nations Coordinator in Angola, Zahira Virani, highlighted the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, celebrated in 2025. The document represents a milestone in the defense of women's rights and proposes concrete measures to promote gender equality," reads the note, which adds that the coordinator "also reaffirmed the United Nations' continued commitment to supporting the Government of Angola in this purpose."

"It is important to mention that Angola is also a signatory to several international instruments on women's rights, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the African People's Charter on the Rights of Women and the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development, CEDAW", the ministry also points out.

It is worth remembering that, in December of last year, the Angola Gender Observatory was officially created, and is now available on the website www.oga.masmafamu.gov.ao.
