Thus, according to a statement from CIPRA to which VerAngola had access, at the meeting, held in Luanda, the report by parliamentarians from the region on the peace and security situation was presented to the head of state.

The information was provided by Nelly Mutti, who is the acting president of the Parliamentary Forum of the Great Lakes Region.

According to the Zambian deputy, quoted in the note, "the purpose of the meeting was to present to President João Lourenço the report by parliamentarians from the region on the peace and security situation, with a focus on the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)".

"The aforementioned report contains several recommendations that, according to the parliamentarian, represent the best ways to address the security crisis in the region, especially in the eastern DRC", the statement reads.

On the occasion, Mutti added: "Having carried out this mission, we consider it prudent, as parliamentarians, to report to the President of the Republic of Angola, who is also the President of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region".

According to the statement, the parliamentarian also "advocated African solutions to the challenges faced by the region and asked all countries on the continent to act in a concerted manner, aiming to promote peace and stability, without resorting to external solutions".

"The only thing that separates us are the artificial borders placed by the colonialists, which, in my opinion, we seem to respect more than anything else. But we, as brothers, are condemned to live in harmony, to live together and in peace", she added.

The Presidency of the Republic, in a statement to which VerAngola had access, clarified that the hearing was attended by ten representatives of the Parliamentary Forum of the Great Lakes Region.

Nelly Mutti clarified that the report presented to João Lourenço "contains the best way to reach an understanding in the region".

It should be noted that the delegation is in Luanda as part of the 15th Ordinary Session of the organization's Plenary Assembly.
