Angola to assume presidency of the Great Lakes Region Parliamentary Forum in April

The announcement was made by Carolina Cerqueira, president of the National Assembly. Speaking at a meeting with the deputy governor of Malanje province, Franco Mufinda, held last Friday, the leader of the National Assembly reported that Angola will assume, next month, the presidency of the Parliamentary Forum of the Great Lakes Region (FP-CIRGL) for a one-year term.

The rotating presidency of the FP-ICGLR is currently held by Zambia, which will hand over the role to Angola in a session scheduled for April.

"Speaking during a meeting with the deputy governor of Malanje province, Franco Mufinda, as part of a monitoring and assistance visit to the GRD (Resident Deputies Group) Malanje, Carolina Cerqueira announced that the transfer of portfolios from Zambia, which assumes the rotating presidency, to Angola will take place during the 15th plenary session, to be held in April this year in Luanda", reads a statement from parliament, to which VerAngola had access.

According to Carolina Cerqueira, this is "a satisfactory achievement for Angola within the framework of the actions developed at regional level".

Outside the international domain and turning to the provincial domain, the leader of the parliament left a word of encouragement to the deputies of the provincial circle of Malanje to strengthen interaction with the population.

Speaking to the press after visiting the facilities of the group of deputies resident in Malanje, as part of the programme of visits to verify, monitor and support local offices, Cerqueira "encouraged the deputies of the provincial district of Malanje to strengthen interaction with citizens, as part of the actions of listening, listening and verifying the actions underway in various areas".

Furthermore, she also "expressed satisfaction with the conditions of the infrastructure, despite the fact that it lacks some improvements, as well as the rapport that exists between the five deputies, two from UNITA and three from MPLA, from the provincial constituency".

She also said that there is a "good understanding" and "good interactive work": "There is a good understanding, there is good interactive work, exchanging opinions, contact with the electorate. They make visits to check the social, economic and cultural situation of the province. I am satisfied with what I heard, I am satisfied with the way they interact. We raised some concerns related to support from a legislative point of view for consultations in relation to the work they should develop", she said.

On the occasion, the president of the National Assembly (PAN) also left some recommendations to the deputies, instructing them to "continue working with the electorate, monitor the concerns of the communities so that parliament can act as an advocate with the Executive".

"Carolina Cerqueira also stated that an effort will be made to reinforce technical and human resources, to provide the GDR with better working conditions and support for the actions of the deputies", reads the statement.

According to the person in charge, they will gradually try to resolve the concerns of the deputies from the provincial circles.

"We will gradually try to resolve the concerns of the deputies of the provincial circles to better develop activities within the framework of the people's mandate," she said.

In turn, the deputies expressed satisfaction with Carolina Cerqueira's visit.

The coordinating deputy of the GDR Malanje, Ana Delgado, on behalf of the other parliamentarians, expressed her "satisfaction with the PAN's visit, as, in her opinion, it helps the central structure to better monitor the actions of the deputies of the provincial circles".

On the occasion, the deputy said that they took "the opportunity to present some concerns that are troubling local deputies".

"On this first visit to the GDR Malanje, the president of the AN was accompanied by a delegation comprising the acting secretary-general, Elias Chinguli de Oliveira, the director of the Directorate of Support for Local Offices, Daniel Malunguila da Costa, the director of Institutional Communication, Venceslau Mateus, among other members of the National Assembly", the note also says.
