The meeting, which lasted approximately two hours, took place in Luanda.
According to a note from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, early in the afternoon of this Wednesday, the mediator for the conflict in the DRC was already at the Presidential Palace of Cidade Alta, "in a meeting with the President of the African Union, the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço".
On the table was the dossier relating to "peace and security in the DRC", says the presidency.
It is worth remembering that, this Tuesday, it was announced that the new mediator of the conflict for the DRC would arrive in Luanda this Wednesday with the purpose of meeting with João Lourenço.
In early April, the President of the Republic proposed the President of Togo as the new mediator in the conflict. This proposal and subsequent appointment took place after Angola renounced its role as mediator in March.
In March, Angola announced that direct negotiations would be held in Luanda between DRC authorities and the M23 rebels, but these ultimately did not take place. On the day these negotiations were scheduled to take place in Luanda, the Presidents of the DRC and Rwanda met in Qatar, and at the time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, was "astonished" by this meeting in Qatar.
