According to a statement from the Cuanza Norte government, to which VerAngola had access, the surgery was performed by a multidisciplinary team made up mostly of Angolans and whose main surgeon was Angolan Eduardo Kedisobua.

The giant cyst was located on the patient's ovary, involving the uterus and fallopian tube.

"The 52-year-old patient suffered from a giant ovarian cyst that involved the uterus and fallopian tubes, weighing around nine kilos. The procedure was carried out by a multidisciplinary team composed mainly of Angolan specialists, with the main surgeon being Angolan doctor Eduardo Kedisobua", reads the note, which adds that this is "an unprecedented event in the province, which had never witnessed a surgical intervention of this nature and which is now possible thanks to the opening of the Mário Pinto de Andrade Hospital".

The patient, from the city of Dondo (municipality of Cambambe), is currently doing well, having been recently discharged and is now with her family.

"This achievement once again highlights the essential role of investments in well-equipped medical infrastructure and the existence of teams trained to deal with highly complex challenges. With these advances, the government of the province of Cuanza Norte reaffirms its commitment to improving the quality of health services offered to the population," the statement said.

The provincial government also says that the "successful completion of this complex surgery further demonstrates the progress of the health sector in the province, highlighting the skills of the local medical team and the increased capacity to perform highly complex surgical procedures without the need to evacuate patients to Luanda province."
