National delegation led by Vera Daves at the WB and IMF Spring Meetings

An Angolan delegation, led by the Minister of Finance, Vera Daves, is in Washington, in the United States of America (USA), to participate in the spring meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, to which VerAngola had access, the meetings will be held between the 21st and 26th of this month, and the event will bring together "the main players in the international economy and finance, to analyze current and pertinent issues".

In addition to the Finance Minister, the Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas d'Abreu, the Secretary of State for Planning, Luís Epalanga, the President of the Sovereign Fund, Armando Manuel, as well as senior officials and technicians from the two ministerial departments and the National Bank of Angola, are also part of the national delegation.

"In Washington, the delegation will participate in different sessions and meetings at the highest level, addressed to ministers and governors of central banks from around the world, in addition to hearings and meetings with executives of international banks and heads of various Bretton Woods institutions and international high finance to analyze the international macroeconomic situation, as well as specific issues in the African region," the statement said.

The agenda also includes "high-level seminars and discussion panels, such as the meeting of the Development Committee, the ANSA Constituency (Angola, Nigeria and South Africa) with the World Bank and Constituency 1 with the IMF", says the note, which also highlights "the forums of Central Bank Governors with the AfG1 (IMF) and of Sovereign Investors promoted by world market banks".

"The Minister of Finance, Vera Daves de Sousa, will join the High-Level Working Group on Global Financial Architecture, and at a technical level the team led by her will hold meetings with the IMF's Fiscal Affairs Department, the World Bank's Human Capital Department, among others," the statement said.

At the invitation of the Atlantic Council, the Ministers of Finance and Transport will participate in the "round table that will address the Role of Investment in Infrastructure and Transport in the Lobito Corridor".

The Ministry of Finance recalls that the country has been a "member of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund since 1989 and, in recent years, has been cementing its relationship with these institutions, through specific programs, with a view to improving the management and consolidation of national accounts, improving investment mechanisms and promoting the country's economic and social growth".
