"The Angolan people stand in solidarity with the Mozambican people in the fight against the scourge of terrorism and violent extremism, which, in addition to material destruction, have claimed human lives", said Téte António, during the 10th Session of the Bilateral Commission between Republic of Mozambique and the Republic of Angola, which took place this Tuesday in Maputo.

Terrorism has "deprived the country and our continent of valuable children", continued the head of national diplomacy.

Téte António also expressed regret at the death of 98 people in the sinking of a fishing boat in the administrative post of Lunga, Mossuril district, Nampula province, northern Mozambique, on the 7th of this month, asking for a minute of silence in memory of the victims.

"The relationship between our two countries has, above all, as a determining factor, the ties that unite our two peoples, in all circumstances, for this reason it was with great pain that the Government and people of Angola learned of the tragedy of ship accident that caused the loss of around a hundred children of this country", highlighted the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The province of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, has been facing an armed insurgency since October 2017 with attacks claimed by groups associated with the Islamic State.

After several months of relative normality, in recent months the province of Cabo Delgado has registered new movements and attacks by rebel groups, which have limited circulation to some points on the few paved roads that provide access to several districts.

The insurgency has led to a military response since July 2021, with support from Rwanda, with more than 2000 soldiers, and the Southern African Development Community, liberating districts near natural gas projects.
