The leader of the parliamentary group of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), Liberty Chyaka, said that an intense day of work was carried out last week in the country's 18 provinces, communicated in advance to the president of the National Assembly, to the General Commander of the National Police and provincial governors.

Liberty Chiaka stressed that UNITA deputies were able to deepen the relationship of trust with citizens, who noted "the expression of their desire for change in relation to the political, economic and social situation".

"We take good note of the dozens of recommendations made regarding local authorities, which, in fact, are already being incorporated into our bill, and we strengthen the conviction that only with participatory democracy will Angola have inclusive development", he said.

During the days, the deputies had contact with traditional authorities, ecclesiastical authorities, traders, businesspeople, students, teachers, young people, elderly people, of all political, philosophical and religious convictions, and also visited hospitals, orphanages, schools and markets.

According to the leader of the UNITA parliamentary group, "the frustrated murder attempt, organized by regime militias in the province of Cuando Cubango, did not in any way reduce the highly positive outcome of these parliamentary days".

"We understand that the fundamentalists in question are victims of the system and the obscurantism that it builds, unfortunately, to keep the vast majority of Angolans hostage to poverty and neocolonialism", he stressed.

The UNITA parliamentary group denounced the attack, on Friday, on the caravan of deputies that traveled to the province of Cuando Cubango, which resulted in one death and six injuries, information later corrected to nine injuries, five of which were seriously injured.

The Cuando Cubango police confirmed the existence of four people injured in the aforementioned attack, denying that the party had requested an escort from the authorities.
