PR congratulates Bassirou Faye believing in new dynamics in relations with Senegal

The President of the Republic congratulated the elected President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, considering that his electoral victory confirms the justice of the ideals of social justice and patriotism, believing in a new dynamic in bilateral relations.

:

João Lourenço, in a message sent to the Senegalese President, extends warm and hearty congratulations on Faye's victory in the presidential elections on March 24, stating that this confirms the justice of the ideals of social justice and patriotism, defended in her political project.

The head of state also says he is convinced that, together with his Senegalese counterpart, a new dynamic will be created in relations between Luanda and Dakar, in the sense of affirming sovereignty and defending the interests of both peoples.

He also wishes success and expresses "the highest and fraternal consideration" to Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

The election of Faye, who turned 44 last Monday and has never held any elected position on a national scale, is being described as a political earthquake, this being the first time, in 12 presidential elections by universal suffrage, that a candidate of the opposition wins in the first round.

The elections were closely watched abroad, as Senegal is considered one of the most stable countries in West Africa shaken by coups d'état.
