UNITA calls for participation in the bill on the institutionalization of local authorities

The UNITA parliamentary group welcomed the approval of the proposed municipal laws in the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, calling for civil society participation in the public discussion.

:

The Government announced on Wednesday that it would send to parliament proposals for laws on the institutionalization, municipal guard and remuneration status of municipal holders, considering their implementation a relevant measure to "strengthen and consolidate democracy".

UNITA (National Union for the Total Independence of Angola), said, in a statement, that this step by the executive was the result of "pressure from society", proving that "the only impediment to the implementation of local authorities in Angola" was the lack of political will of the holder of executive power and the parliamentary majority of the MPLA (Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola).

"The UNITA parliamentary group salutes Angolan youth, civil society and the Church who, in the voice of CEAST [Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé and Princípe], contributed to removing the executive from its position of making the effective institutionalization of Local Authorities unfeasible Locations", reads the press release.

For UNITA, the country will have the opportunity to discuss the bill initiated by its parliamentary group, which has been under public consultation since March 4th, as well as the initiative of the holder of executive power, "whose content the vast majority of Angolans are unaware."

The UNITA parliamentary group called on deputies and civil society to participate and contribute to enriching its project, which should be submitted to the National Assembly in April for debate.
