Hospital Américo Boavida “will be completely closed from the 13th” for rehabilitation works

Rehabilitation works will lead the Américo Boavida hospital to close its doors from next Saturday. However, the emergency service closes this Monday, informed Mário Fernandes, general director of the hospital unit, who added that patients who are hospitalized will be transferred to other units, “especially the new hospital in Viana”.

The person in charge explained that the rehabilitation of the hospital comprises two phases, one dedicated to expanding the unit and the other to the requalification of its main building: "The Américo Boavida hospital is in the rehabilitation phase and this rehabilitation has two stages: one is the expansion of the hospital and the other is the requalification of the main hospital building".

"Therefore, the contractor, at this stage, will begin the work to requalify the building, it is a deep requalification that goes from the structure to the conditioning of the building so that it can receive the necessary modernization. Nowadays, we know that hospitals have much more modern operating standards, in fact it is an example of other hospital units that the country has been gaining, and Américo Boavida is still a hospital structure from the 60s, so it needs a profound restructuring, and that is what will be done ", he added, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

In this sense, the hospital's emergency department closes this Monday, while the total closure takes place from Saturday. "At this stage, the hospital will be completely closed from the 13th, with the emergency service closing on the 8th", he pointed out.

Regarding patients, Mário Fernandes explained that they will be transferred to other reference hospitals.

"Patients who are hospitalized at this stage will receive all care until their discharge and those who actually need to remain hospitalized after the 13th will be transferred to other reference hospital units, especially the new hospital in Viana, who will receive our clinical staff and also all the information related to the clinical processes of our Américo Boavida", he stated.

"We can now rest assured our patients that those who are hospitalized will continue their follow-up in the new hospital unit and those who regularly make their appointments and have their specialist doctors assisting them at Américo Boavida will be followed up from the 13th at the General Hospital of Viana", said the person responsible, quoted by RNA.

According to the person responsible, cited by Angop, the intervention in the unit, which has 300 beds, aims not only to improve service to users, but also to increase the set of services and create new specialties such as otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology.
