According to a press release, a memorandum of consultations in the field of civil aviation was also signed, with the aim of the two instruments to promote a strong international aviation system between the two countries, "based on the healthy competition of their airlines and with direct access from Angola to the largest civil aviation system in the world".

The documents were signed on Wednesday, at a meeting at the DOT West Building, in the Lincoln Conference Room, by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas D'Abreu, and by the Secretary of State for Transport of the United States of America, Pete Buttigieg.

On the occasion, the minister underlined that the signing of the two documents "represents another step in Angola's consolidation in the world's airspace, especially with the start-up of the new international airport on the horizon".

"This new and modern infrastructure is in line with the best international technological practices and was designed to receive the largest aircraft, a fact that will also place Angola on the most important commercial and tourist routes in the United States, both fundamental for the socioeconomic development of our country", said the Angolan transport minister.

In turn, the US Secretary of State for Transport highlighted the importance of the new international airport in Luanda "for the development of the sub-Saharan region of the African continent and a strong lever for its development".

The communiqué refers that Pete Buttigieg pointed out that "the great bet of North American policy in this matter is based on the safety, comfort and experience of passengers, whether in terms of aviation, maritime or rail transport, or even in small things such as boarding locations. The distance between ports and, mainly, the green seal, that is, the theme of renewable energies".

"Keep us informed of any projects you consider important, as we can always put them on our investors' radar," he said.

According to the note, this agreement will enable airlines from both countries to offer the public a wide range of service options, with innovative and competitive prices.

"The documents signed by the two States facilitate the expansion of international air transport opportunities for both countries, at a unique moment for Angola, months away from inaugurating Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, guaranteeing the highest degree of safety and protection in international air transport", underlines the statement.

These agreements also reaffirm Angola's "extreme concern" with acts or threats against the safety of aircraft, which jeopardize the safety of people and property, adversely affect the operation of air transport and undermine public confidence in the safety of civil aviation. .

"Both the United States of America and the Republic of Angola are parties to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, celebrated in Chicago, on December 7, 1944", the statement said.

The two leaders also had the opportunity to address other matters, namely in the maritime and port sphere, in which Angola intends to extend strategic cooperation relations with the United States of America, particularly in the field of maritime security and port infrastructure.

The free zones and their development was another of the topics addressed and which attracted particular interest from the American side, the note highlights, which also refers to the recent approval by the Government of the United States of America of an investment package for Angola of 1.2 billion dollars, one of the country's priorities being the commitment to modernize and expand transport and logistics systems at national level, so that it asserts itself as one of the regional port 'hubs'.
