Job Capapinha: UNITA was the “greatest beneficiary” of peace when former PR pardoned “weak” leaders

MPLA politician Job Capapinha said this Tuesday that UNITA was the “greatest beneficiary” of peace, due to the “complacency” of the former president, or “they would have disappeared just as frail men arrived from the woods”.

:

Job Capapinha, also governor of Cuanza Sul province, criticized the absence of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) in the march for peace and stability, held within the framework of the 21 years of peace, on 4 April, and said that the party founded by Jonas Savimbi was the one that "benefited the most from peace".

"Because if comrade President José Eduardo dos Santos didn't want them [UNITA leaders] they would have disappeared, just as they arrived from the forest, some were even already falling by themselves, just push, don't you remember those images?", asked Job Capapinha, cited by Emissora Católica de Angola.

"They are the ones who benefited the most from peace and now that they are called to welcome peace, they don't want it, they fled, so what do they want?", he also asked, in his speech at the opening of a seminar aimed at the staff of the audit and discipline commission of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) in that province.

Capapinha, who is also a member of the central committee of the MPLA, also criticized UNITA for the fact that JURA, the youth arm of the "maninhos" withdrew from the National Youth Council (CNJ).

"So, if that [CNJ] is a platform for conviviality, a basis for democratic discussion, they are for democracy and why do they withdraw from such a platform? To insinuate confusion, to indict anarchy, it is clear, therefore, they do not they are fine", he shot.

The secretary general of the Revolutionary United Youth of Angola (JURA), Nelito Ekuikui, accused last week, in statements to Lusa, the MPLA of instrumentalizing the CNJ, which led to suspending participation in this body.

"We are contesting the instrumentalization of the National Youth Council by the MPLA, particularly by the President of the Republic (João Lourenço)", stated Nelito Ekuikui.

The JURA leader considered that the CNJ "in recent years has deviated from its founding mission".

"It means that the National Youth Council today has become a mobilization movement to raise the image of the current President of the Republic and of the MPLA, which has the image completely down", he added.

Angola marked, on 4 April, 21 years of peace, in celebration of the Complementary Memorandum of Peace signed in Luena, Moxico province, on 4 April 2002, between the Angolan Government and UNITA, which brought an end to hostilities.

Regarding the absence of UNITA, at the peace march held in the city of Sumbe, capital of Cuanza Sul, the provincial secretary of UNITA, quoted this Tuesday by Rádio Católica Angolana, said that his party did not participate in the act because the development passed through the province.

"In Cuanza Sul, 21 years of peace, we saw development pass us by, towards the neighboring provinces and, as a result, today we have a Cuanza Sul with enormous problems, just look at the social reality of the province from its capital city", considered Armando Manuel Kaquepa.

For those who promoted such a march, he justified: "We thought that they were only praising the gains of other provinces, that won universities, roads, streets, and still with fat budgets for solutions that are imposed, they forgot that they live in a city of dust and mud".

"Some who participated in the march had to return home hungry, while others went to restaurants to drink wine that costs 70,000 kwanzas, so we do not agree with this anti-human and unpatriotic attitude", shot the also UNITA deputy, in response to Job Capapinha.
