In a statement alluding to the 4th of April, Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, which is being marked this Tuesday in Angola, the Political Bureau of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), also calls for every citizen to be an active agent of tolerance and love of neighbor.
Angola marks this Tuesday 21 years of peace, celebrating the complementary peace memorandum signed in Luena, Moxico province, on April 4, 2002, between the Government and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), which dictated the end of hostilities.
The MPLA, in its statement, salutes all the Angolan people on this date and undertakes to support all actions aimed at praising the achievements of the heroes involved in the various armed conflicts registered in Angola.
It augurs that his legacy of struggles and conquests will serve as an inspiration to the new generations, in order to cultivate, more and more, the patriotic spirit and the diverse manifestations of citizenship, reflected as pride of all Angolans.
The "comrades" reiterate that the consolidation of peace, democracy, as well as the preservation of national unity and cohesion, remain in their governance program for the present five-year period, "as a priority action, and this valuable asset may be the fundamental anchor to guarantee the realization of the dream".
As a prerequisite for a better country, "increasingly inclusive and participatory", the MPLA exhorts the Angolan people to make peace their priority, and that each citizen is an active agent of tolerance and love of neighbor, for the construction of a society of social progress and sustainable development.
"Based on the implementation of successful public policies, with emphasis on the fight against corruption and all forms of injustice and discrimination", refers in the declaration.
Angolans are also urged to commemorate the event with "jubilation, a spirit of gratitude and a perennial concern for the preservation of hard-won peace", as a tribute of "immeasurable value" to the history of Angola and Angolans.
The province of Namibe hosted this Tuesday the central act of the celebrations of the 21 years of peace and national reconciliation in an act chaired by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote, on behalf of the President, João Lourenço.
