UNITA: Angolans continue to experience “serious” political, social and judicial crisis in 21 years of peace

UNITA said this Tuesday that, 21 years after the achievement of peace, Angolans continue to experience a "serious" political, judicial, economic-financial and social crisis, characterized by the "regression" of indicators of the democratic State of Law.

For the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), the country's current context is also characterized by the "increase" in poverty levels, the unemployment rate, especially among youth, "endemic and systematic corruption and abuse and violation of human rights".

The executive secretariat of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission of UNITA, in a statement alluding to the 21 years of peace and national reconciliation, which marks today, refers that it will continue to dialogue with the Government so that it fulfills the pending matters of the peace agreements.

The insertion and social dignity of all ex-soldiers and the return of UNITA's material assets constitute the "pending" of the Peace Accords.

Angola marks today 21 years of peace in celebration of the complementary peace memorandum signed in Luena, Moxico province, on April 4, 2002, between the Government, led by the Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), and UNITA, which dictated the end of hostilities.

In this declaration alluding to the event, UNITA also urges citizens to "not relax" in defending their rights enshrined in the Constitution and refers that peace "has always been a primary objective" of Jonas Savimbi, founding leader of the party.

The Standing Committee of UNITA's Political Commission also says it believes "deeply" in the virtue of dialogue as the supreme way of solving men's problems.

As in Bicesse in May 1991, in Lusaka in November 1994, in Luena in March 2002, in Luanda in April 2002, UNITA "is available and will continue to take initiatives for dialogue with all national partners, to decant , by consensus, the best solutions for the major problems that Angola and Angolans face", he stresses.

"It is the case of true national reconciliation, consolidation and deepening of the democratic rule of law. In this regard, UNITA appeals to all the children of Angola to unite energies with a view to the institutionalization of municipalities still in 2023, which are the true guarantor of the development of communities", adds the statement.

The province of Namibe hosted the central act of the celebrations of the 21 years of peace and national reconciliation in an act chaired by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote, on behalf of President João Lourenço.
