"We chose Brazil for being a reference in Latin America and worldwide in the approach to people with sickle cell disease", explained the director of the Institute of Hematology of Angola and head of the mission in Brazil, Francisco Domingos, to Agência Brasil.

The Angolan official also said that the country had started a pilot project to implement Brazil's experience with the heel prick test.

"We are not going to do as Brazil does, with [testing for] several diseases. We are going to start [only] with sickle cell anemia", he said.

Francisco Domingos also added that among the cooperation projects is the qualification of blood donations in Angola and that the plan involves using Brazil's experience in the process of collecting blood by volunteers in order to qualify the Angolan process.

The entourage of doctors and specialists from the Ministry of Health will be in meetings in the cities of Brasília, Belo Horizonte and Salvador.
