Tax revenue grew 40 percent and totaled 13.7 billion kwanzas in 2022

The General Tax Administration (AGT) collected revenues of 13.7 billion kwanzas in the 2022 financial year, which corresponds to a growth of 40 percent compared to 2021, it was announced this Monday.

Oil revenues, in this period, contributed with 9.1 billion kwanzas, having grown 51 percent compared to 2021, while non-oil revenues amounted to 4.6 billion kwanzas, a growth of 22 percent compared to the year previous.

The data was advanced this Monday by the acting administrator of AGT, Tiago Santos, during a press conference to review the activities of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023.

According to the official, the Industrial Tax, with 27 percent, followed by the Value Added Tax (VAT), also with 27 percent, and the Labor Income Tax (IRT), with 19 percent, were the taxes with greater participation in the collections of 2022.

"The majority of taxes showed positive growth compared to 2021", he stressed, noting that commerce (23.6 percent) and the extractive and manufacturing industry, with 12.8 percent and 11.1 percent, respectively, were the sectors that most contributed to non-oil revenue in 2022.

In relation to the first quarter of this year, non-oil revenue totaled 976 billion kwanzas, growth of 13 percent over the same period last year.

Internal taxes, tax revenue, contributed with 744 billion kwanzas, an increase of 14 percent compared to 2022, and taxes on international trade, customs revenue, totaled 233 billion kwanzas, 9 percent more than in the same 2022 period.

Tiago Santos also noted that, in the first three months of 2023, VAT was the main tax collected, totaling 290.2 billion kwanzas, corresponding to a 30 percent share of the total collected and a growth of 9 percent.

The IRT stood out as the second main tax in the first quarter of 2023, with a figure of 240.6 billion kwanzas.

The acting administrator of the AGT also highlighted the collections of the Property Tax (IP), which totaled revenues of 19.4 billion kwanzas.

According to Tiago Santos, IP revenues represented a decrease of 10 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

"However, the property register shows a growth of 2.8 percent compared to the accumulated value of the year 2022", he stressed, urging, at the same time, citizens to register their properties with the AGT.

At least 902 million kwanzas were collected in January, February and March 2023 in the collection of the Tax on Motor Vehicles (IVM), a growth of 14 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

AGT, which has 48 tax offices, 57 tax posts, 15 customs offices, 85 control points and 25 customs posts throughout the country, has in its register the registration of 7,065,336 taxpayers, of which 89.2 percent are individuals and 3.9 percent are collective companies.
