National swimming team debuts this Thursday at the African Championship in zone IV in Zambia

The national swimming team will make its debut this Thursday at the African Championship in zone IV, which will take place in Zambia. Swimmers Rhanya Santo and Marco Furtado will be responsible for inaugurating the country's participation in the event and will swim the 800 meters freestyle.

The coach of the national team, Engrácia Cardoso, admitted that the team is prepared to participate in the competition: "The team is technically prepared to participate in this zone".

Cited by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), Engrácia Cardoso also made it known that they have "great goals", including "improving the athletes' marks in all the competitions they will participate".

"We would like to come back with some medals", she added, quoted by RNA.

It should be noted that the national team carried out, this Wednesday, April 13, its only training session, which took place in the swimming pool of Ciêla Resort (where the team is staying) and lasted about an hour, writes Angop.

At the event, which will take place between the 14th and 18th of April, the country will be present with 18 athletes: Yusseni Furtado, Emanuel Lutango, José Cochofel, Rafael Bredel, Alex Fortes, Marco Furtado, David Padre, Rafaela Santo, Ana Nunes, Jasmine Lourenço, Djamel Pires, Nyriam Morais, Inara Santos, Milena Lourenço, Rhanya Santo, N'hara Fernandes, Filipe Freitas and Maria Freitas.

In the previous edition, the country was in 10th place, having won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
