National Teachers Union suspends strike

The National Union of Angolan Teachers (SINPROF) suspended the strike called for this Monday after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS).

:

The agreement came after a meeting, on Saturday, between representatives of the various entities, reports Jornal de Angola.

Two years ago, SINPROF sent a claim book to the Ministry of Education, containing ten points, which have been the subject of negotiation between the parties.

"Some requirements have been met and others are gradually being met," said the president of SINPROF, Guilherme Silva, quoted by the Angolan daily.

The union leader added that SINPROF can resume the strike, in case of non-compliance by the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Education has pledged to promote 181,624 education agents, between May this year and January 2023, continuing the process after this date, according to the length of service.

Between October of this year and January 2022, the first 105,000 promoted education agents will be hired on the financial basis, and between February 2022 and January 2023, the remaining 76,624 teachers will be employed.

The Minister of Education stressed that "the institution will make every effort to fulfill the promises made in the memorandum" and that the process of promoting teachers must be a right materialized within the limits of the law.

"Every five years, the promotion of teachers must happen and go back to normal, thus avoiding always working under pressure", said Luísa Grilo.
