Teachers advance to national strike with first phase from 22 to 27 April

The National Union of Teaching Teachers and Non-University Teaching Workers (Sinptenu) decided to move on to a national strike, divided by the months of April, May and June, to demand "better working conditions and promotions".

The first phase of the national strike will take place between 22 and 27 April, while the second phase will take place between 24 and 27 May and the third phase from 14 June to 2 July.

According to Sinptenu, in a note sent today to Lusa, the declaration of the national strike was approved following a representative assembly of non-university education workers in Luanda, which analyzed the claim form sent to the employer.

The "lack of a satisfactory answer" on the part of an employer, who "did not even consider the problems that afflict workers in the Education sector" motivated the strike declaration, the union said in the note.

Other reasons for the strike, adds the union, are the "non-promotion of categories and the failure to set a deadline for updating the wage table, at a time when the purchasing power of wages has already dropped by more than 40 percent.

The union also demands the creation of more efficient and constant means for the protection of education agents against covid-19, in addition to the implementation of transportation for teachers or the respective subsidy.

The establishment of agreements with banking institutions for the granting of credits, with health institutions for the issuance of health insurance and the attribution of a professional card are also included in the claim form sent to the Ministry of Education on the 24th of February.
