According to FAB, quoted in a publication on the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) website, the Spaniard will guide the team until the end of Afrobasket 2021, which takes place in Rwanda from August 25 to September 4.

Before the Afrobasket, the Spaniard will have to lead the national team in the pre-Olympic tournament that will take place in Lithuania from June 29 to July 4.

According to Angop, the coach should arrive in the country on May 24.

With 52 years old, Josep Clarós is the second Spanish to lead the national team. The first was Moncho Lopes, who guided the team in 2015, during the African Championship.

Josep Clarós has spent time with various teams in America and Asia, most notably with the national teams of El Salvador and Mexico. He has also been present in 16 championship or cup finals with teams from 12 different countries.

He has won 10 gold medals in championships or cups in seven different countries, and has been considered five times as the best coach in various championships in Canada, South America, and Europe.
