The Lubango Geoscientific Laboratory (LGL), according to a statement from the ministry, is equipped with several modern tools that will allow physical, chemical and spectral analysis of water samples, soils, rocks, among others.

In the statement, cited by Angop, the ministry said that the laboratory's main objective will be to support the service of the southern zone of the Geological Institute of Angola and to help geological mining activities.

According to the statement, the laboratory, which was built as part of the National Geology Plan, is also linked to an Ornamental Rocks Valorization Center (CVRO).

Located in the locality of Congenge, in Lubango, in the laboratory building, the CVRO aims to carry out laboratory tests to make known the physical properties of ornamental rocks and materials used in civil construction.

Also as part of the commemorations of Angola's Mining Day, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, traveled to Huila. Accompanied by the ambassadors of Portugal, Spain and Germany, the ruler admitted that the province of Huila is not "only ornamental rocks.

Quoted in a note published on the ministry's Facebook page, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas noted that the province hosts "the largest iron project in Kassinga, the first gold project under production in Chipindo, several other auriferous projects under research and also the Niobium prospecting project in Quilengues.

"As you see, it's not just the ornamental rocks. The province is eminently mining," he said, adding that, however, "mining must be done with respect for the legislation, the environment, and support for the communities."

Diamantino Azevedo indicated that Portugal and Spain are partners of the secto within the National Geology Plan. He added that Spain "donated the Center for Ornamental Rock Valorization, to be inaugurated on the Angolan Miner's Day (April 27), while the German counterpart of the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO) helps in the study of underground aquifers in Huila.

"We are also studying with Germany a cooperation in the application of hydrogen as an energy source," he said.

Still within the celebrations, the town of Chibia, Huila, hosts during this Monday and Tuesday the Expo Rochas, an exhibition of ornamental rocks.
