In a statement posted on its official website, Lucapa Diamond Company clarifies that the discovery concerns a 144-carat diamond.
"It is the sixth diamond over 100 carats recovered in 2021 and the 23rd diamond over 100 carats recovered at Lulo since the start of exploration and mining operations," the company advances.
On the latest discovery, Lucapa CEO Stephen Wetherall, quoted in the statement, said the Lulo Mining Society has already "recovered seven diamonds over 100 carats in just over three months."
"With these recoveries of diamonds over 100 carats and the two special pink diamonds in inventory," the Lulo Mining Society "is well positioned to achieve record diamond revenues for the first half of 2021," he added.
The Lulo mine has proven fruitful: about a week ago another two diamonds over 100 carats were found in that mine.
It should be recalled that the largest diamond produced in the country also originated from this mine. With 404 carats, the gem was discovered in 2016.
The mine is operated by Sociedade Mineira do Lulo, formed by Endiama, Lucapa Diamond Company and Rosa & Petals.
