The country was chosen in the 8th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of ZAMCOM, held by video-conference, which was attended by João Baptista Borges, Minister of Energy and Water.

Cited by Angop, the minister indicated that the country assumes this position at a time when some developments have already been verified, with emphasis on the Strategic Plan for the entire Zambezi Hydrographic Basin.

The minister also considered that the members of the organization should join efforts so that the organization's goals are met.

He also alerted to the fact that it is necessary to give redoubled attention to the Program for Integrated Development and Climate Change in the Zambezi Hydrographic Basin.

João Baptista Borges took the opportunity to refer that the states belonging to the organization should maintain their commitment to ZAMCOM, referring to the payment of the annual contributions.

On this matter, the minister said that the members should commit themselves to increase their contribution, in order to meet the internal needs of the organization.

According to Angop, it is estimated that the annual contributions of each member is around 10 thousand dollars.

Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe are part of ZAMCOM, which aims to guide the management and development of the Zambezi Water Course.

ZAMCOM results from an agreement signed between eight countries that share the Zambezi River Basin.
