PR asks young people to contribute to the fight against covid-19

This Wednesday, João Lourenço acknowledged the “prominent role” of young Angolans in building a democratic and lawful state, as well as in the process of national reconstruction.

In a message on the occasion of Angolan Youth Day, the Chief Executive congratulated and greeted all young people "from Cabinda to Cunene". The President also recalled the role of this age group throughout history, mainly in the struggle for the achievement of national independence and the defense of sovereignty.

He recalled, however, that at the moment "the great challenge is the fight against the new coronavirus", affirming the country's effort in ensuring the means of biosafety and in the training of medical and paramedical personnel. "Important investments have been made in hospital infrastructure, with a significant increase in the number of beds and intensive care units," he added, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

He also stated that a new investment is being made in the acquisition of vaccines, to immunize a large part of the adult population, with emphasis on groups at risk.

"But all this effort by the Executive and the sacrifices of the population over more than a year may have been in vain, leading us back to confinement and the State of Emergency, if we stop wearing the mask, if we stop hand washing often, if we fail to comply with the recommended social distance and do not avoid large crowds of people, "he warned.

He noted the important role of young people in the fight against the pandemic, and their commitment "can contribute significantly to reducing the likelihood of spread of contamination by the new coronavirus".

The PR therefore asked young people to resist "the temptation of these, beaches and other activities temporarily discouraged". "I urge all young Angolans to behave in an exemplary manner as good citizens in all areas of life, but in particular with regard to covid-19", concluded the President.
