Covid-19: Africa with 241 more dead and 6032 infected in the last 24 hours

Africa recorded an additional 241 deaths associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, for a total of 116,506 since the start of the pandemic, and 6,032 new cases of infection, according to the most recent official data on the continent.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people in the 55 member states of the organization is 4,375,876 and that of those recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours is 8817, to a total of 3,928,272 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa continues to be the most affected region, with 1,932,452 infected and 60,909 dead associated with contagion with the disease. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,559,960 cases and 53,423 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area, with 1,299,024 infected and 37,367 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 553,773 infections and 10,048 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 445,958 and that of deaths is 5863. Central Africa accounts for 144,669 cases of infection and 2319 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 12,526 deaths and 212,130 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 9480 deaths and 276,727 cases of infection.Morocco registers 502,961 cases of infection and 8915 deaths associated with covid-19.

Among the countries most affected are Algeria, with 3137 dead and 118,707 infected, and Ethiopia, with 3230 fatalities and 232,512 infections.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 794 deaths and 68,927 cases, followed by Angola (557 deaths and 23,841 cases of infection), Cape Verde (188 deaths and 19,525 cases), Equatorial Guinea (106 deaths and 7259 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (66 deaths and 3694 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (35 deaths and 2268 cases).
