Covid-19: 475 more deaths and 10,209 cases in the last 24 hours in Africa

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded another 475 deaths associated with covid-19, now totaling 116,265 fatalities from the new coronavirus and 4,369,844 infected, plus 10,209, according to official pandemic data in the region.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total number of recovered people in the organization's 55 member states is 3,924,455, plus 9736 in the last 24 hours.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,932,452 infected and 60,909 deaths associated with covid-19. In this region, South Africa, the country most affected by the pandemic on the continent, with 1,559,960 cases and 53,423 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area, with 1,296,360 infected and 37,279 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 551,061 infections and 9897 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 445,488 and that of deaths is 5861. Central Africa accounts for 144,483 cases of infection and 2319 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 12,526 deaths and 212,130 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 9396 deaths and 274,604 cases of infection. Morocco records 502,961 cases of infection and 8915 deaths associated with covid-19.

Among the countries most affected are Ethiopia, with 3230 fatalities and 232,512 infections, and Algeria, with 3137 dead and 118,707 infected.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique records 794 deaths and 68,871 cases, followed by Angola (554 deaths and 23,697 cases of infection), Cape Verde (187 deaths and 19,231 cases), Equatorial Guinea (106 deaths and 7219 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (66 deaths and 3680 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (35 deaths and 2268 cases).
