Police and Ufolo center train 350 staff on human rights protection

A group of around 350 staff from the defense and security organs of the province of Lunda Norte participated in the third stage of training promoted by the National Police and the Ufolo study center.

According to a note, to which the Lusa agency had access, the series of seminars, in which members of the municipalities of Cuango, Cambulo and Lucapa participated, addressed the correct and legal use of coercive means, including firearms, and protection human rights.

Participants also benefited from knowledge about good service to the public and models of police files, as well as proximity policing.

The last topic taught was related to the observance of rules and procedures in acts of meetings or demonstrations in the light of the Constitution and other legislation in force in Angola.

The trainees also benefited from essential notions about the best procedures to prevent or minimize outbreaks of tension with the population, through the adequacy of police action in strict respect for human rights.

The head of the Policing and Public Order department of the National Police, superintendent Cláudio Tchivela, mentioned in the note, stressed that "police forces must act in a more proportionate manner, without causing damage to the population, whenever there is an inevitable confrontation".

In turn, the deputy director of the Escola Prática de Polícia, subcommittee Pinduka Marques, said that the subjects taught were intended to guarantee "greater professionalism on the part of the police force".

"The training aims to transmit the best practices to solve the concerns of the citizens who resort to the police services or to refer them to the competent bodies", he stressed.

The municipal administrator of Lucapa, Daniel Mutaza, stressed the importance of training, which will contribute, at the local level, to the improvement of relations between the National Police and the communities in the establishment of mutual trust, expecting from this act greater guarantees of "protection of the right to life, the exercise of citizenship and human rights ".

For his part, the chairman of the Ufolo study center, Rafael Marques, emphasized that the initiative establishes a platform for dialogue between civil society and the National Police, which must be constant and permanent ".

On Saturday, as part of the unprecedented partnership between the commander-in-chief of the National Police and Ufolo - Study Center for Good Governance, the IV Citizenship and Public Security Days will be held in Saurimo, Lunda Sul province.
