MPLA asks for 25 percent of party leaders' salaries to fight covid-19

The leaders and officials of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA) will receive 25 percent less of their base salary if they so wish. The money will be used to fight the covid-19 pandemic.

According to Solomon Xirimbimbi, spokesman for the MPLA Political Bureau's emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss preventive measures against the invite-19, leaders with positions in parliament, the executive and the party's leadership will be able to donate 25 percent of their salary.

The decision is up to each one, as donations should be made on a voluntary basis, he said, adding that these will come into force this month.

In his speech, Solomon Xirimbimbi also called on the population to be informed and follow to the letter all the rules of prevention against covid-19. He also called on companies to produce protective materials such as masks, alcohol-gel and soap.
