Covid-19: Portuguese create free screening platform that already works in Angola

An association of volunteers and a Portuguese technology company came together to develop a screening platform for covid-19, under the supervision of the World Health Organization (WHO), to test the population of Portuguese-speaking countries free of charge.

:

The screening system was developed by MACIV Technologies Corp, through the Portuguese-speaking social network KIOXK, and "allows mass screening for free to the entire population," according to a statement from the three organizations.

Anyone who takes the test and whom the platform identifies as suspicious cases will automatically be referred to the call center of the Nova Fénix association, an Angolan organization of volunteers, who informs about security procedures and helps to direct the case to the national authorities.

The platform is already operating in Angola and available to other Portuguese-speaking African countries.

"The software only needs information from the emergency and health services of those countries," said the head of Nova Fénix, Manuel Castanho, to the Lusa agency.

According to the statement, the screening service allows the likelihood of infection to be assessed in minutes, to rule out unlikely cases, to map geographical outbreaks of contagion and to generate support statistics instantly.

The ONS official in Angola, Javier Aramburu, quoted in the same document, stresses that “in all territories, particularly where resources are scarce, it is imperative to maximize resources and act extremely quickly”, so initiatives like this should be “cherished” ”By official entities.

"With the peak of the crisis rapidly approaching Africa in general and Angola in particular, it is urgent that all available resources be activated, for the good of the population", he reinforced.
