According to a statement from Sonangol, which Lusa agency had access to, the contract, signed at the weekend, meets the wishes of the sector, with a view to better meeting fuel needs.

The note added that Sonangol, which also sees increased cooperation with Pumangol, will use the facilities, owned by Puma Energy, almost in full capacity, of 300,000 cubic meters, as well as other logistical capabilities that it floodgate.

At TCPL, representatives of the two companies followed the first fuel unloading operation, carried out by Sonangol's "Girassol" ship, "contributing to the efficient supply of fuel to the country".

"Meanwhile, Sonangol remains engaged [committed] to the process of resuming its construction project for the Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal, an undertaking that will guarantee greater onshore storage capacity and a substantial contribution to the creation of the liquid fuel security reserve. and gaseous for the country, "said the statement.

The construction of the Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal, with an estimated onshore storage capacity of 641,500 cubic meters, was halted in 2016, but last year Sonangol and the United Arab Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding in Luanda for the resumption of the project, an investment estimated at US $ 600 million in its first phase.

For the second phase of the project, whose expansion will only proceed after studies of the regional and local market, the storage capacity is expected to double, totaling 1.7 million cubic meters of oil products.

The infrastructure is expected to be operational in the first half of 2022, with works expected to start two years earlier.
