According to a statement from the Namibe government, which VerAngola had access to, the recently inaugurated facility is a "centre specialised in the collection, treatment and management of hazardous waste, solid hospital and industrial waste", thus corresponding to "a solution for the correct sorting of hazardous material discarded in hospital and industrial units".
The facility has created more than 10 jobs for local young people and is capable of incinerating 800 kilos of waste per hour.
"The collection, treatment and disposal industry is located in the Macala Tchipaty neighbourhood, in the municipality of Sacomar, and has generated 16 jobs for local young people", reads the note, which adds that the unit "has the capacity to incinerate 800 kilos of waste per hour, at a temperature of over 1800.º".
Abel Kapitango, acting provincial vice-governor, was responsible for cutting the ribbon.
"The ribbon cutting for the inauguration of the Holfe Group company was carried out by the acting provincial deputy governor, Abel Kapitango, accompanied by the deputy governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Ema da Silva, and the municipal administrator of Sacomar, Elizete Luís", the statement said.
Speaking on the occasion, Kapitango highlighted "the importance of the initiative for reducing the environmental impacts caused by the inadequate disposal of hospital and industrial waste, which represents a significant step forward for the province in environmental and economic terms".
