Teresa Dias, who was speaking at the opening of the expanded Consultative Council of the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS), stressed that the government must continue to work, "so that the jobs generated are stable", contributing to the development of communities.

"And that they generate income to support their families in order to prevent a large number of families from remaining in poverty", stressed the minister.

The National Statistics Institute announced in January that the unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2024 fell to 30.8 percent, although it increased slightly in the age group between 15 and 24 years.

The minister highlighted the role of the social partners, namely the three trade unions that, in 2024, fought with the authorities to improve workers' wage conditions.

According to Teresa Dias, the actions of these trade unions "have proven to be essential for good social harmony" and the path to the existence of well-received public policies focused on work in order to bring good social justice to workers in general.

"In this regard, we cannot fail to mention the long and fruitful negotiations maintained between the executive and the trade unions throughout 2024, where the common sense of the parties prevailed in view of the economic and financial conditions that the country is going through, resulting in the implementation of the recent 25 percent salary increase across the public sector", said Teresa Dias.

The minister highlighted "the arduous process" that culminated in the aforementioned increase, in which the parties showed themselves committed to the recognition and appreciation of human capital in the public sector, and also "an unequivocal concern of the executive with improving the social conditions of public employees, by increasing the purchasing power of families".
