Upon landing in Saurimo, the President of the Republic was received by Daniel Félix Neto, governor of Lunda Sul, among other personalities.
The first day of his agenda in the aforementioned province includes the meeting of the local governance council.
"On the first day, that is, Monday, President João Lourenço will lead the work of another session of the local government council, the meeting where the progress of the main infrastructure construction projects, and not only, across the entire country is assessed globally and where the provincial governors have a very important role in this approach", informed Luís Fernando, spokesperson for the President of the Republic, quoted in a video released by CIPRA and to which VerAngola had access.
According to the spokesperson, Monday's meeting will bring together, for the first time, the 21 provincial governors: "This session in Saurimo will have the particularity of bringing together for the first time the 21 provincial governors following the new political-administrative division that gave rise to the emergence of three new provinces".
On the second and last day, the head of state will inaugurate the Saurimo ring road and also visit the works at the University Campus of the Saurimo Polytechnic Institute.
"The following day, Tuesday, the President of the Republic is expected to inaugurate the Saurimo ring road in the middle of the morning and, shortly afterwards, visit the works at the University Campus of the Saurimo Polytechnic Institute, a structure dependent on the Lueji A'Nkonde University", said Luís Fernando.
João Lourenço returns to Luanda on the same day: "Tuesday, March 25, will be the day on which the Head of State will return to the capital, after yet another mission to verify on the ground the progress and development of the different regions of our country", concluded the spokesperson.
Visits to hospitals occupy the president's agenda at the weekend
On Saturday, the President of the Republic carried out a field trip to visit the works at the Américo Boavida, Queimados and Pedalé hospitals.
On the occasion, the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, announced that the new Hospital dos Queimados, "currently under construction, will have three hyperbaric chambers, medical equipment that the country will use for the first time".
"The introduction of three hyperbaric chambers will allow us to increase our response capacity to various pathologies and contribute to a better recovery of patients", reads a note from CIPRA, which adds that this hospital will have 248 beds, of which more than 60 will be "dedicated exclusively to the treatment of burns, while the rest will be for other medical specialties".
"The completion of the construction and equipping of the new Hospital dos Queimados, located in the municipality of Belas, in Luanda, is scheduled for October of this year", says the note to which VerAngola had access.
The future hospital, visited on Saturday by the President of the Republic, has an overall execution of around 55 percent and is budgeted at more than 155 million dollars.
Regarding the rehabilitation and expansion works at the Américo Boavida Hospital, which began in 2022, the minister said that they are progressing well and will be completed in November.
This hospital, according to a note from CIPRA, will have capacity for 600 beds, and will be the largest general hospital in the country, with "very high complexity" services.
"We will have a training and accommodation center for professionals in training and teachers who come to provide training," said the minister, quoted in the note.
The President of the Republic also visited the works at the Pedro Maria Tonha 'Pedalé' Hospital Complex.
"The works on the Pedro Maria Tonha 'Pedalé' Hospital Complex, a tertiary-level health reference unit, could be completed by the end of the first half of the year or the beginning of the next, informed the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta", points out CIPRA.
The minister said that "work is progressing well and that the Head of State recommended to the contractor that work be accelerated to complete the hospital unit, located in the urban district of Gamek, Luanda".
"A historic project that has already had several less positive moments. Now, finally, it is starting with complete safety," added Sílvia Lutucuta, highlighting that the infrastructure will be "a reference unit for the country, with several highly complex specialties, including hemodialysis services, a histocompatibility center and an oncology area, in addition to the expectation of carrying out transplants."
According to the head of the Health department, the hospital unit will have "an advanced training center, differentiating itself from the Américo Boavida Hospital by having, in addition to the operating room for simulated surgery, an intensive care unit and a robot dedicated exclusively to training, in addition to another for assistance".
"This means that robotics is already a fact. We have already started at the Cardeal Dom Alexandre de Nascimento Hospital with robotics for care and we also have robotics for training," she added, quoted in a note from CIPRA.
This hospital will have capacity for 144 beds, "including 33 for hemodialysis".
