After formally taking office at the African Union (AU) Commission, where he gave a speech, João Lourenço remained in the position of President of the organization, visiting in this capacity the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, an entity created on the initiative of the AU with the purpose of strengthening health security on the continent, responding to pandemics and taking care of the development of capacities in the field of public health.

During the visit, the President was explained how the center works, in its mission to monitor the health situation on the African continent, with particular emphasis on the epidemics that regularly occur in numerous countries.

At the end, João Lourenço wrote in the institution's guest book, recognizing the institution's "remarkable efforts", which he considered a "beacon of excellence in public health and disease control that makes the entire continent proud".

As President of the Republic of Angola, Lourenço held a working meeting with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali. According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, the strengthening of relations between the two countries dominated the meeting.

The President also visited the Adwa Victory Memorial, a monument erected in Addis Ababa to immortalize the decisive battle that took place more than 100 years ago, in which Ethiopian forces inflicted a heavy military defeat on the Italian invaders. There, the Head of State laid a wreath and listened to explanations from the historian-guide, while touring the open-air venue filled with allegories and references to the historical feat, such as statues of heroes, weapons and other paraphernalia.

There was still time to attend a dinner in his honor, offered by the Ethiopian Prime Minister, before returning to Luanda this Friday morning.
