The visit is also part of the context of the 2nd meeting of Brazil-Africa Agriculture Ministers, scheduled for May 21, following the creation of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, inaugurated last year during the Brazilian presidency of the G20.
The same source told Lusa that João Lourenço is expected to arrive on May 23 and that on May 25 a celebration will be held “for Africa Day and the 50th anniversary of the independence of Angola and other Portuguese-speaking countries”.
Brazil was the first country to recognize Angola's independence, in November 1975, with the Brazilian Embassy in Luanda being created by decree the following month.
Still, Brazilian diplomacy indicates that “as Angola assumed the Presidency of the African Union, there is a possibility that the Angolan President will not be able to come”.
