President of the Republic invites Nigerian counterpart to US-Africa Summit

José Bamóquina Zau, Angolan Ambassador to Nigeria, extended President João Lourenço's invitation to his counterpart Bola Tinubu - President of Nigeria - and also to Omar Touray - President of the ECOWAS Commission - so that the leaders can attend the US-Africa Business Summit, which will take place in Luanda next June.

According to a note from the Nigerian Embassy to which VerAngola had access, the messages were delivered by the ambassador during separate audiences granted by the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and by the President of the Commission of the Economic Community for the Development of West African States (ECOWAS).

In the message, João Lourenço invites Nigeria and ECOWAS to participate "at the highest level" in the US-Africa Business Summit, to be held from 23 to 26 June in Luanda, "as a platform to attract investment for major Pan-African infrastructure".

The President of the ECOWAS Commission accepted the invitation, "expressing gratitude for the great honour of participating in the Luanda summit to discuss the future of investment in Africa". The diplomat also congratulated João Lourenço on his position as chairman of the African Union. "We are convinced that Angola and President Lourenço will put their experience in conflict management to the test and effectively address emerging hotbeds of tension in various regions of the continent," said Omar Touray.

A similar message from President João Lourenço will be delivered this week in Cotonou to the President of the Republic of Benin, Patrice Talon.
