From March 14 to 31, the Luanda Science Center will hold a series of events dedicated to mathematics, focusing on Sona and Ethnomathematics.
In reference to International Mathematics Day, this initiative's main target audience is students, teachers, families and anyone interested in science and culture.
Therefore, the program will include, for example, educational workshops and special sessions at the planetarium.
The first day of the cycle of events includes the Constituent Assembly of the Angolan Association for Mathematics Education at 5 pm, while a video mapping session is scheduled for 7 pm on the façade of the Luanda Science Center, which will present geometric patterns of the Sona.
The initiative's program also includes video mapping sessions scheduled for March 21st and 28th, at 7 pm.
On the 16th, 23rd and 30th of March, special planetarium sessions will be held with the theme "The Mathematics of the Cosmos". Sessions begin at 11am at the center's planetarium, last 20 minutes and will cover topics such as 'Shapes and patterns in the cosmos'; 'Geometry of planets and orbits (Kepler's Laws)', among others.
On March 15, 16, 22 and 23, educational workshops dedicated to Sona will be held. The workshops, which will take place between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm, are aimed at students in the 1st cycle of secondary education and will allow participants to explore Sona through drawing and interpreting mathematical figures.
