Former basketball player Afonso Silva found dead at home

Afonso Silva ‘Ti Fon’, former basketball player, died this Sunday, in the capital. The athlete, who played several times for the senior men's national basketball team, was found dead at home.

The information is provided by Angop, which cites a familiar source. According to the source, the former player was found dead in his home, located in the São Paulo neighborhood, in the Sambizanga Urban District, in Luanda.

1.º de Agosto, using its Facebook page, said it was "with deep pain, sadness and consternation" that it learned of the death of Afonso Silva, who was currently the club's youth coach.

"Afonso Silva dedicated most of his life to sport, in particular the club's basketball, where in addition to being an athlete, he served as a coach", the emblem also states, addressing "heartfelt condolences" to the family.

The former basketball player played as a winger, having distinguished himself by making long and short distance plays, writes Angop.

In his career in the sporting world, highlights include winning the African Championship with the national team, in 2003, in Alexandria, as well as winning bronze in 1997, in Dakar, among other achievements.

It should also be noted that Afonso Silva, former national champion for Atlético Sport Aviação and 1.º de Agosto, is the brother of Marito, former goalkeeper for the national football team.
