The considerations were made this Wednesday, after a meeting with the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in Luanda. According to a brief note from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, the hearing served, essentially, to address the country's relations with the IMF.

On the occasion, she said that if the country needs it, the offer will still be available, highlighting that if the reforms underway in the country are well executed, the future will be bright, writes Angop.

The IMF official also made it known that the aim of the hearing was to address the strengthening and deepening of cooperation, as well as "congratulating the Angolan authorities for the reforms they have been undertaking, mainly with regard to dealing with the various economic shocks that the country faces".

The deputy director general of the IMF, in statements to the press – cited by Public Television of Angola (TPA) – also said that they did not discuss the "issue of any financial support" to Angola. However, she recalled that the IMF had "a successful financing program for Angola, which ended in 2021".

She also said that she shared with João Lourenço the "need for continued efforts", considering that the world is "characterized by recurring shocks, mainly in the oil market, and Angola, being an oil producing country, must continue to face this process, because we know that oil prices are volatile."

"Angola will need to make more and more efforts to adapt to these shocks and we encourage the Government to continue these reforms, especially those that were initiated last year, those that have to do with the process of withdrawing fuel subsidies", she added.

The hearing also served to agree on the "need to reinforce the network of social services", aiming to provide support to "increasingly vulnerable layers" so that "they can feel that the Government is present there", she indicated, adding that the "Government must continue to have a good communication program about the need to undertake these reforms, as well as reinforce other areas necessary so that such reforms can be reflected in the lives of citizens".

The official also said that they discussed the "vision" that the President of the Republic has regarding "diversification and the need to continue this process of diversification, as well as efforts to combat corruption to create a conducive environment in Angola".

She also expressed satisfaction with the "priority" that the head of state "takes on matters of education" and the "necessary skills and abilities", aiming for "education to advance".
