Angola and France discuss parliamentary cooperation

Bilateral cooperation in the parliamentary domain was discussed, this Tuesday, in a meeting between Carolina Cerqueira, president of the National Assembly, and her French counterpart, Yael Braun-Pivet.

According to a statement from parliament, to which VerAngola had access, the hearing discussed matters relating to the "legal situation of women, the protection and promotion of their rights, equity, inclusion in political decision-making processes and the promotion of peace, as well as bilateral cooperation and the strengthening of relations of friendship and solidarity between the two parliaments and peoples".

On that occasion, according to the note, Carolina Cerqueira – who signed the book of honor of the Assembly of the French Republic – invited her counterpart from France to travel to Angola on an official visit.

It should be noted that the president of the National Assembly is in the French capital with the intention of participating, this Wednesday and Thursday, in the Summit of Presidents of Parliaments from around the world.

In addition to Carolina Cerqueira, the national parliamentary delegation also includes deputies Rosa Branca Albino, from the MPLA Parliamentary Group, Albertina Navita Ngolo Felisberto, from the UNITA Parliamentary Group, and Florbela Malaquias, President of the Humanist Party of Angola.

"The event reserves, for the first day, a conference on inspiring female personalities, the inauguration of an exhibition dedicated to women's political rights, in the Gallery of Festivities of the National Assembly of France", reads the statement, which adds that this Wednesday's agenda also includes a guided visit to the hemicycle of the French parliament, culminating with a reception in the halls of the Hotel de Lassay.

For the second day, "two round tables are planned on education for equality, the fight against violence against women and health, as well as equality and parity in politics and the affirmation of female role models".

"The forum, which celebrates 11 years of existence, is a space for sharing experiences among women leaders from all over the world and analyzing advances and challenges in strengthening equity, participation and opportunities for women globally", says the note.

It should be noted that Women Political Leaders (WPL) concerns a "global network of women political leaders at international level, including the European Parliament, which currently has around nine thousand members" and is headquartered in Reykjavik, in Iceland, being a network that ends up contributing to the growth in the number and influence of women in political leadership positions.
