In bronze and 3.6 meters high, this statue pays tribute to the Portuguese Silva Porto, who was a merchant and explorer – having settled in Cuíto – as well as becoming a diplomat between the Portuguese settlers and the natives.
Located in Cuíto, province of Bié, the statue is characterized, among others, by having an arm missing.
António Francisco Ferreira da Silva Porto had a tragic death, when he committed suicide while embracing the Portuguese flag as a way of protesting the fact that his request to return was denied.
