Portuguese cooperation supports small Angolan social projects with 45.5 thousand euros

Camões – Portuguese Cooperation Center in Angola selected seven proposals to minimize social needs, particularly in education and health, with a maximum value for each project of 3.5 million kwanzas (about 6500 euros).

In a note, the Camões – Portuguese Cooperation Center refers that the selected proposals, within the scope of the competition for the Small Projects Fund, met the objective of contributing to community development, poverty reduction, inclusion of the most vulnerable groups and promotion resilience in local communities.

According to the note, the projects SOL NASCENTE - Community Nutrition Education Project, in the Morro dos Veados district, in the province of Luanda, to be implemented by AJD - Acção Juvenil para o Desenvolvimento, to support vulnerable children between ages zero and five, promoting awareness-raising actions on food safety and nutrition.

Of the set of selected projects, emphasis should also be placed on Education – key to the future, to be carried out by the Association of Community Schools (AEC), which aims to provide schools with school boards and school desks, and Projecto Formar Jovem para Vencer, to be carried out by Associação Desportiva Power Sport Club, which will promote sports activities among young people.

Another selected project is EcoEducando, to be implemented by EcoAngola – Associação para a Sustentabilidade e Ambiente, which aims to train teachers in public and private primary schools in Environmental Education, and involve around 1000 students, attending levels of education between the first and sixth grade.

In the water sector, the Rainwater Drainage project was selected, to be implemented by Grupo Amizade in Angola, which consists of building a rainwater drainage system in the municipality of Viana, in Luanda.

Musical Education – a step towards a bright future, to be developed by the Luanda Philharmonic Orchestra, which will benefit around 40 children, and CreArte Angola: Growing with the Arts, by the Óscar Ribas University, to organize creative workshops with children, promoting activities social and cultural projects of plastic arts, music and traditional dances with the community, are among the selected projects.

“The Small Projects Fund, made available by Camões - Portuguese Cooperation Centre, aims to mitigate some shortcomings identified by civil society actors in communities, in the social field (Health and Education, in particular) which, due to their nature and small scale in budgetary terms, are not covered by other types of institutional support within the framework of Portuguese cooperation or other development partners”, says the note.
